About Me
Minnesota: the wonder years
Frosty winters, glorious lakes, scandinavian heritage. (You get the picture.) Started design career making clothes and homes for Barbie dolls.
Minneapolis to Europe: college
Interned in Guthrie Theatre costume shop. Favorite job was sewing boning into corsets. (The meticulous nature of this task speaks volumes about my personality.) College, including a year in London with hitchhiking tour through Europe.
One way ticket to NY
Seamstress at Barbara Matera Costumes, stitching yards of maribou feathers into capes for original Broadway production of “Dreamgirls.” Observed that all working designers had gone to Yale.
Yale University, MFA
Studied set, costume and lighting design. A dream world for a designer… the sky’s the limit.
Live from New York
Designed costumes for “Saturday Night Live” for three seasons, dressing celebrities in silly costumes. Created looks for characters including the irreverent Church Lady.
It’s a good thing
Art director of Martha Stewart Living TV. Perfect job for a perfectionist. Won Emmy award with my team for art direction of current “Martha” set in New York.
Real life design
Designed 10,000 square foot new house, ceiling to floor and everything in between; mixing antiques and contemporary furnishings to create a stylish and cozy home for a happy family.
World traveler
Traveling the world: finding treasures, taking photographs, meeting interesting people, writing stories, being inspired.
Objects
The treasures, the tales, the pictures, the characters, the inspiration all find a home base in a blog called Objects. The dictionary defines “object” as a thing, a being, or a purpose. The object of the blog is to share the objects I discover…and to surprise, intrigue, inform, educate, and delight.
